Olympics 2026 Milano Cortina
The biathlon events at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics build upon a 50+ year tradition, making the Antholz Valley, with the Südtirol Arena, the global hub of biathlon in 2026.
Biathlon history
The success story began in 1971: Paul Zingerle, a visionary innkeeper, transformed the Antholz Valley into a sports venue of international stature. With cross-country ski trails and shooting ranges at the idyllic Antholzer Lake, he laid the foundation for the first Biathlon World Championships, which took place here in 1975.
International Biathlon Competitions
Today, the valley attracts tens of thousands of fans every January for the IBU Biathlon World Cup. This unique event combines athletic excellence with the breathtaking backdrop of the South Tyrolean Alps. Whether for ambitious winter sports enthusiasts or passionate spectators – Antholz is the perfect place to experience the thrill of biathlon up close.
But Antholz is not only the perfect venue for the World Cup; it is also a host for the Biathlon World Championships, which take place annually in the years without Olympic Winter Games. The Antholz Valley has already had the honor of hosting the Biathlon World Championships six times, most recently in February 2020.
